"In headaches and in worry
Vaguely life leaks away,
And Time will have his fancy
To-morrow or to-day.”
- As I Walk Out One Evening by W. H. Auden
Time is precious for the youth, always looking at the clock, waiting for class to finish or just trying to beat deadlines. Almost constantly on the move from class to class, writing papers, or just running errands. We, as students, tend to forget about being present in the moment and enjoying life a little; we are always thinking ahead of time or worrying we might be too late.
Here are simple tips and tricks to put your mind at ease for a day-to-night look when you know time is just not in your favor.
For the day, I want to be put-together but still functional, doing my everyday tasks without any trouble. But I, like a lot of people, don’t always have time to go home and change after a long and tedious day. Whether going out for dinner with family, catching up with old friends, or setting out to paint the town red with some pals, I’m usually quite tired and just want to throw something quick and hassle- free on to save some time and stay relaxed, but still look appropriate for whatever the occasion.
Throwing on a nice jacket or even a thin, polished cardigan (our country is hot, I understand), sweeping your hair back, and throwing on a pair of heels or pretty flats gives a good transition from “work” to “play”.
Handy-dandy tips:
• If you know you have somewhere to be at night, bring all the key items you need and just stow them in your car or locker – doing so will save you a lot of time.
• Changing your lipstick/lip stain/whatever from a light/bright shade to darker tones is a good transition from a day to night look
• Touching up is always a good idea if you wear make up
• Slapping on some black winged liner if you’re feeling up to the challenge
• Sweeping your hair back gives a more polished, put together look, but if you really can’t stand having your hair up, spray some dry shampoo on your locks and give it a good brush to tame your mane and give it some life again
• Give yourself a good *squirt* *squirt *of your favorite perfume or scent for a pick me up
As busy as our days might seem, with the ironic chaos of our seemingly endless, mundane lives, it’s important to stop for a while and really relish moments. We might be worrying about what to wear, thinking we don’t have time, or just stressing over the little things that we end up not enjoying or stop getting excited for things anymore. I think that’s when we lose ourselves a little. As cliché as it may sound, time really is fleeting and we shouldn’t waste it. We are never going to be as young as we are right now; do your best in school, learn from mistakes, dress well, take risks and follow your bliss.
P.S. Here's a link of Tom Hiddleston reading "As I Walk Out One Evening". It's glorious.
