New Kids on the Block

In a world where social media has taken over most of our lives, there are so many ways to convey one’s thoughts, whether it be through Twitter statuses or Instagram updates. 

These three young ladies, however, have managed to open up and express themselves through a different platform – fashion blogging. Although they aren’t entirely new to the scene, they are a few of the fresh faces that have been getting lots of hype lately.

With their passion for fashion, they’ve been making waves in this world of blogging and I was lucky enough to ask them a few questions.

One of them is Nina Pineda of Sartorially Challenged. Not only is she a 15-year-old girl with a great blog but she also has put up her own online store (Indiestructible), and has gathered a following of over 12,000 people on Twitter. 

Then there’s Jeline Catt of Sartorialust who is a 17-year-old lass who not only writes for her own blog but also used to write for The SDA Project, a blog dedicated to showcasing the unique styles of De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde’s students in the School of Design and Arts. 

 

Lastly, Clarisse Provido of Live the World Like a RUNWAY. She is, as she states, “a frustrated 16-year-old blogger/artist/vagabond”. Although she says she’s “frustrated”, her blog page states otherwise, having over 20,000 views and all. 

What’s it like becoming an inspiration to young girls across the country, especially when it comes to style and fashion? 

Nina: It's a little weird, to be honest, but in a good way. I'm still in my formative years, I'm at that age where I look up at other people and turn to my mom when I make mistakes, so it's weird that some people look up to me or turn to me when they're down. It's real flattering, though. It's touching. 

Jeline: It feels great to be an inspiration to young girls out there and knowing that, I also get a teeny bit pressured because I always have to put my best foot forward and be a good role model since they look up to you. As much as possible, I stay true to myself no matter what. I also feel so honored to even be considered an inspiration. Thanks gals. 

Clarisse: I am? Though I cannot assume a solid audience, I can say I would be an inspiration to my humble number of blog/social net followers by injecting my own twist to trends, being real with the clothes I wear (which are actually wearable in reality), flexible with brands I use or wear and of course, exuding confidence since it's the best addition to any outfit. 

Why did you decide to become a fashion blogger in the first place? 

N: I've seen a lot of fashion blogs before, but it wasn't really a conscious decision to become one of them. I just wanted to write about fashion. But lately, I've been more of a lifestyle blogger than anything.

 J: I decided to become a fashion blogger because I got inspired by these fashion blogs that I read and it seemed really fun so I went for it. I was (and still am) really into fashion and it was a great way to showcase my personal style. I've also always loved dressing up. There were times that I would just put on clothes and look at myself in the mirror to see if it looks good. It may sound weird but it's what I did for fun. Haha!

 C: I decided to be a fashion (and now a lifestyle included) blogger since I wanted to create an online diary where I can grow in my style aesthetics while being inspired with the things that happen with my hobbies and interests while hoping to become an inspiration to others. 

 And how would you describe your style? 

N: My style is... ever-changing. I can't describe it. 
 

J: I'm currently into pastels and blush tones. I finally got over my black and white phase! My style is quite feminine and minimalist, I suppose. I'm also into basics lately. 

C: I'd describe my style as something playful and versatile. I'd go for something edgy (plum colored lipstick included) or something dainty with lace details and playful print on print occurrence when the mood dictates.

 Do you have any advice for aspiring fashion bloggers? 

N: Just do what makes you happy, and dress as you wish. It's not about keeping up with the trends.
 
 

J: Don't be afraid and just go for it! If you really want to do it, you will. There's no one else stopping you from doing it but yourself. Show the world your amazing style. Don't get into it for the free stuff but because you love doing it. Also, quality over quantity. Always. 

C: First, do not underestimate you style. It will eventually evolve into something you'll be fully proud of. Second, try to get yourself out there. Start small; write "fashion of cultural dissection" posts to get you started while developing your branding. Third, be real. Do not bombard and fool yourself by using brands or tools out of your reach. Work within your means and get creative! 

As said by these girls themselves - go out there and be yourself. Don’t hide behind the pages (or should I say walls?) of Facebook or Twitter. There isn’t anything stopping you from putting yourself out there except for yourself. Who knows? You might be the next big thing.
